Comparing players is pointless and impossible. How do you compare the effectiveness of a 7 foot center with a 5’8″ lightning quick point guard? How do you effectively rank a player playing in NCAA basketball vs one playing in the MPL? In saying that comparing and debating players is also pretty much one of the most fun basketball debates whether it be NBA legends or local league Irish ballers.
At TCC we have decided to come up with a current ranking of the top 20 “Irish” basketball players currently playing the game. The idea is to have a vote pre-season, mid-season and at the end of the season to try and keep the standings moderately up to date. (This list is for the men, ladies to follow!)
Drum roll please….
Other players receiving votes: Neil Randolph, Adrian O’Sullivan, Cian Nihill, Keelan Cairns, Mark Nagle, Ger Noonan, Ciaran O’Sullivan, Phil Taylor, Paddy Lyons, Neil Campbell, Eric Westbrooks, Mick McGinn,
1. To be eligible players must have been born and played junior basketball in Ireland, or, have been living in Ireland as a resident for at least the past three years.
2. Players must be currently playing competitive basketball.
3. There are 6 judges with experience in the MPL, the National League and International basketball. The judges are spread out from all over Ireland.
4. Each judge ranks his top 20 players. 1st place player gets 20 points, 2nd gets 19 points etc. All the judges scores are added together and the top 20 players are listed.
